The insurance regulator IRDA has taken tough step and said that no vehicle will be insured without the Policy under Control (PUC) certificate. This is strict instructions given in the notification issued to all General Insurance Company.
The IRDA is following the order of the Supreme Court which stated that no vehicle would be insured without PUC certificate. In August last year, the Supreme Court, in MC Mehta versus Union of India and Others case, said that the vehicle companies will not insure a insurance with insurance renewal is an vehicle unless it has a PUC annual feature whereas valid PUC certificate on certificates.
It is mandatory for every vehicle owner to have a valid PUC certificate to comply with the prescribed emission norms. A vehicle without such certificate is liable to be prosecuted under the Motor Vehicles Act. Computerized facility is available on petrol pumps and workshops to check the pollution of the vehicle. Vehicle insurance is renewed every year.
