On Saturday, the government made changes to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), National Eligibility Test (NET), and Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) & Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT). Now these tests will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) instead of CBSE. So far all these examinations were conducted by CBSE. JEE and NET will be conducted twice in a year. Changes will apply from next session. Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that all these examinations will finish in four to five days. Students will have the option to choose a date. All exams are computer-based. Students will be able to go for free practice at the authorized computer center from the end of August. List of authorized centers will be released soon. There has been no change in the syllabus, parameters of the questions, language and fees of these examinations.

1. JEE: JEE (Main) is for admission in IIT and NIT.

Earlier: JEE (Main) was being conducted once in a year. CBSE used to conduct this exam.

Now: JEE (Main) will be twice a year in January and April from next session. But the responsibility of JEE (Advanced) will remain with the IIT.

Advantage: Students will be able to focus more on the 12th exam in March.

2. NEET: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is for admission in medical and dental colleges across the country.

Earlier: This test was being conducted once in a year. CBSE used to conduct this exam.

Now: NEET will be twice a year in February and May from next session.

Advantage: Students will have the opportunity to be appeared in both tests. Admission will be based on the best score of both examinations.

3. NET: National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted in the institutions of Higher Education for the purpose of qualifying for teaching. The selection for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is done on this basis.

Earlier: CBSE was conducting NET on behalf of UGC. This test was held twice a year in July and December.

Now: NET will be once in the year in December only.

4. CMAT and GPAT: Javadekar said that the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) will now also be conducted by the National Testing Agency. Javadekar assured that having a computer-based format of the exams would prevent duplication. The fear of paper leak will also end. Replying to the paper leaking question about screen sharing in the SSC examination, Javadekar said that this would not be possible in the National Testing Agency module.

CBSE will focus on education:

Union Minister Arun Jaitley had announced the formation of the National Tasting Agency (NTA) while presenting the budget for 2017-18. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the central cabinet had approved the formation of the NTA in November last year.

The CBSE had argued that they used a lot of resources in organizing these examinations and their work was badly affected. After the formation of the NTA, the CBSE has become independent of the responsibility of conducting the test and will remain focused on education.
